BLBS Instructors

We have currently assembled the strongest group of instructors in the history of the Big League Baseball School.

Fielding & Hitting

Co-owner, Dan Briggs along with Cory Keylor and Jeff Allen anchor the hitting and fielding instruction programs.

Pitching

The pitching programs are directed by co-owner, John Pacella, Jay Pacella, and Tim Rall as well as several additional instructors who have been on our staff for many years.

DAN BRIGGS
Dan Briggs

Hitting/Defense - Baseball & Fastpitch

Dan signed as a first baseman/ outfielder with the California Angels in 1970, making his Major League debut in 1975.

He played in both the American and National Leagues until 1982. Dan taught abroad for Major League Baseball International and later served as head coach for Denison University from 1989 - 1999. 


Pitching

John was drafted in 1974 by the New York Mets and made his Major League debut in Sept. 1977. He played 15 years in both the American and National Leagues and the Japanese professional League’s Tokyo Giants. John later managed independent teams in the Frontier League prior to Big League.

Following an outstanding college career at Ohio University (All Mid Ohio Conference 2000, All Midwest Region), Cory was drafted  as an outfielder by the Baltimore Orioles in 2000. Cory played seven years of professional baseball, garnering the Player of the Year award for the Orioles’ minor league system in 2006; he was selected to the 2006 AA Eastern League All Star Team and invited to the prestigious Arizona League Fall League in 2005.

Cory’s eight year teaching career reflects the professional fundamentals he learned from Major League Player mentors, Denny Walling (Houston Astros) and Torey Lovello (Cleveland Indians).  Cory’s hitting philosophy emphasizes the basics:  a balanced stance, efficient swing path and ability to maintain visual focus to gain command of the strike zone…establish solid mechanics first and then focus on proper mental approaches.

JEFF ALLEN

Baseball & Fastpitch
All Conference and All State honors - Indiana

Hitting Instruction: Baseball & Fast Pitch
Big League Baseball School since 2001

Jeff received All Conference and All State honors during his High School career in Indiana; Jeff has developed a strong “word of mouth” following, particularly among young hitters; many have gone on to successful high school and college careers. ..phone calls from his students (after productive games) provide Jeff with his biggest thrills.

Jeff’s years as a Big League instructor is a testament to his passion for teaching.  Jeff is also developed a strong following with the girls fast pitch hitting community; his experience as a High School Head Coach ( 4 years at Worthington Christian) as well as coaching several elite fast pitch travel teams have proved invaluable in developing his fast pitch teaching philosophies.

Jeff believes a players attitude, effort and commitment  provides the power and passion that make unique and special things happen…confidence develops through proper instruction followed by the hard work necessary to master the fundamentals. 


JOHN KUCHNO

Pitching

John Kuchno is a right-handed pitcher in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. He was drafted in 2012 after lettering two years at The Ohio State University. Kuchno has made it as far as AAA (Indianapolis) within the system and continues to train in hopes of being called up to Pittsburgh. His pitching philosophy emphasizes repeatable mechanics, throwing with intent, and pounding the strike zone.


LAURA BLACKBURN

Fastpitch

Laura graduated from Thomas Worthington High School in 2006 where she was a four-year varsity starter in center field. 

During her time at Thomas, Laura broke, or set, every hitting record and earned numerous accolades at the OCC and State level.

She went on to play at the collegiate level at Malone University for three years until she underwent a career ending surgery on both of herlegs. 

Laura graduated in 2010 and went on to coach softball at Thomas Worthington as the head JV coach during the 2011-2012 school year and assistant Varsity coach during the 2012-2013 school year. 
Under Laura's direction, both JV and Varisty teams had winning records with several of the girls now playing at the college level.


KEEGAN LANTER

Hitting/Catching

At Thomas Worthington high school, Kegan was a 3 year letter-winner and everyday starter. He helped his team win D1 Conference and District championships in both 2012 and 2013. He was an All-Conference catcher as a junior, and as a senior was awarded All-Conference, All-District, All-Metro and All-State honors as a catcher as well. After a year of the playing at Otterbein university, he transferred to and currently is at Ohio State, where he joined the Club Baseball team and helped them win a Conference title. 


KEVIN HALE

Gahanna Lincoln High School, Oakland University, Italian Professional

Pitching Instruction

Joined Big League Baseball School in 2009

Kevin starred as hard throwing pitcher at Gahanna Lincoln High School in Central Ohio (Team Captain, All Conference, and Team MVP); he split his college baseball between Oakland University and Rio Grande. He finished at Rio with school records for strikeouts, wins and shutouts and voted team captain.

Kevin signed with the BBC Italian Professional League in 2007 and helped lead his team to the FIBS National Championship. 


PAIGE MCMENEMY

Paige McMenemy

Fastpitch

University of Akron

Student-Athlete - Majoring in Psychology. Minoring in Sports Management with plans to be a Sports Psychologist.  
3.0 Cumulative GPA after completing freshman year (2014-2015). Graduation date: May 2018

Lesson/Experience

  • Started organizing individual lessons junior year of high school (2012).  Pitching and hitting instructor.
  • Worked individually with 40-50 pitchers in the past three years, and 10-20 hitters
  • Focus on fundamentals, mental game, develop pitches/swings, fitness, and teach girls what it takes to compete at a higher level.  
  • Experience with girls from ages 9 to High School at various levels of experience (beginning to more advanced) 

Coaching

  • Head Coach of WYBSL Green hat (10U) Fall Ball team - Organize practices, manage games, lineups and manage parents.  Recreational level team 
  • Head Coach of the 12U Westerville Warcats Black – Summer 2015, Select players, organize practices, tournament /league game schedule.   Developmental travel team

High School: Kellenberg Memorial High School
Tim’s is a left handed pitcher whose professional pitching career had him reach the AAA levels with both the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics organizations. Over his time in professional baseball he has won a California league championship, The John Ellis award for community service, and was named all-star for the 2003 Northeast league. He was selected by Oakland in the rule 5 draft in 2006 where he started in AA but was quickly promoted to AAA before sustaining a career ending injury.

Before becoming a professional Tim played four years at Division II School Saint Andrews Presbyterian College. In his time at St. Andrews he was second team all conference twice, First team all-conference once, Second team all-region once, Team most valuable pitcher twice and Athlete of the year in 2001 for the college. Over his college career Tim had over 120 pitching appearances breaking school records in saves, career saves, career appearances and career strikeouts averaging over a strikeout per inning in both college and professional career.

Tim has been an instructor with big league since 2008 and has been the office manager since 2010. His personal philosophy towards pitching is “Throw Strikes, Change Speeds, and Work Fast”.
